Being a fan of the books written by Robert E. Howard, i had to try this game out. I even got into the beta version, playing it some weeks before release and i thought it was a really nice game. I tried a few different characters, leveling them up to level 10 before moving on. They would all be deleted anyway, so i didn’t bother investing more time going beyond level 10.
Now that the game is out, i must admit I’m kind of disappointed. In Tortage, the first town you visit, every quest is given to you in spoken dialogs. There are a lot of cinematics and storyline missions, which i found interesting. Rewards almost come in non-stop as you receive new skills, points to distribute, feats to organize, everything sounds perfect right?
I understand that hardcore MMO players will not even care about this. Their goal will be to reach the end-game content, which is not quite there yet unfortunately. After Tortage, unless you’re a completionnist, there’s not much to do except doing chain quests, changing zones from time to time and finally get to that ultimate level 80. And leveling from level 20 to 80 is a demanding task, without much rewards or incentives to go further.
I didn’t expect the game to be perfect but i canceled after a short 3 weeks of play, not even completing my first free month. I’ll try it again in a few months to see if Funcom managed to bring the same quality to the later parts of the game. Have you tried it? What’s your take on AOC?

Hey buddy…i thought exactly the same of AOC.I didnt finish my first month also and i even bought the limited edition and preorder.I didnt even reach my mount level.Luckly i found someone on ebay who bought my account and game for 50 bucks..so i lost only 20 buck on it. The most annoying things were, no spoken dialogs after tortage and the gathering and crafting..And the most hatefull thing of all was the random encounters during gathering of materials.Anyway its gone and im glad…Back to warcraft for me.
