So here we are: 1 year, 115 posts, 842 comments and 115,992 unique visitors later and we’re still alive and kicking! What can I say, as I said in the first post, I didn’t know if I had it in me to even keep up with posting on a blog, now I can’t imagine life without it
So what has happened in the last year in my life? My son is 11 months old today
My loving wife is still the love of my life! I’m still a game designer and loving that and have thus far worked on 2 released games with a third on the way! I’ve rediscovered two long lost loves: Magic the Gathering and Professional Mixed Martial Arts. Haven’t touched my “work in progress” novel at all since last year though, and I’m really disappointed about that…
I also thought I’d share some interesting info about towardsmecca.com throughout the last year:
Most of the visitors come from (in order of hits):
- The United States
- Canada
- The European Union
- Australia
- Great Britain.
The most popular posts were (by number of hits):
- Portal: The Future of Gaming
- How I Find Time to Game with a Baby
- Xubuntu for the Win
- Call of Duty 4: A Muslim Point of View
- Sent Home from EB Games
The most commented on posts were:
- Call of Duty 4: A Muslim Point of View
- How I Find Time for Games with a Baby
- Portal: The Future of Gaming
- Xubuntu For The Win!
- Sent Home from EB Games
Hmmm… the two lists look a little similar
So here’s a vow to finally finish my novel and to post more on the blog! Although 117 posts in one year is still way more than I expected initially!
Anywho, happy new year to anyone who cares, have a good year to everyone else!

Hey Osama,
Congrats on the blog. I really enjoy reading it. It’s always well written and interesting. It reminds me of some of the conversations we had on the 51 bus coming back from school. You were always this passionate about video games, it’s nice you kept true to yourself.
I’ll show your blog around Beijing and hopefully China will make the list next year…take that Great Britain! You should come visit some time. The food is great and games go for 75cents a piece. (maybe that’s a bad thing!)
All the best in the new year for you and your family.
Keep writing, and playing,
Ben

Hey Ben! How’ve you been man?
So how’s China? What are you doing there?
I remember those long bus rides! I enjoyed our convos very much and I just remember that you were the person to first introduce me to The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings! I owe you a lot for that as I credit that novel to my deep love for reading!
Yeah man, gaming for me is starting to feel much less like a hobby and much more like an obsession
Still, I have nothing to hide as there are a lot of worse ways to spend one’s time
Anyway, great to hear from you and I’m looking forward to seeing you again to catch up
Are you planning a visit to Montreal any time soon?
