Nearly a year ago, my friend Sebastien nudged me in the direction of this pretty cool and addictive game called Elements. I’m surprised to say that Elements has kept me playing on and off since.
What kind of game is it? Well it’s a free, web-based, flash, card, video game. Quite a mouthful, isn’t it?
It can be described as a poor man’s Magic Online, and it generally doesn’t have the balance and professionalism that Magic Online does, but it’s far from just a clone. There are several elements that makes Elements (bad pun intended) stand out from it’s big daddy.
- The ability to add cards to your collection without paying real world $$$.
- The ability to choose a default “mana source” that you start the game with which helps with Magic issues such as mana screw.
- The ability to upgrade ALL of the cards in the game, even though it takes forever to do this to just 1 card.
- The ability to play an AI opponent as well as friends and random opponents.
- The ability to play against the top players’ decks of the month.
And many more I can’t think of now. It won’t be a direct replacement for the Magic committed looking for a way out of MTGO, but it could be cool for someone looking for a free alternative.
Well, give it a try and tell me what you think
