e3logoFor the second year in a row, I’m posting my views on this year’s E3 for your reading and trolling pleasure.

As with last year, I could care less about portable devices and so will only mention any console related info that got my attention. If I left anything out, it’s because I don’t care about it, and you shouldn’t either. This year promised to be a better show but honestly ended up being almost as lackluster as last year’s. Don’t these companies realize all that gamers really want are great new games? Please, no more gimmicks!

midnightpool.jpgThis might not be big news to most but, this being the first game I work on that wasn’t canceled/postponed, I’m totally psyched! Yup, my first ever designed game to see a public release, Midnight Pool for Wii Ware, is coming soon to a Wii near you!

The team working on this really did put a lot of effort in it and we believe we really did make the best pool game out there available on any console. I’m really happy that the game is finally out and I can’t wait to pick-up a Wii so that I can show it off to all my friends ;)

Here’s a snippet from the press release:

ivy-versus-mitsurugi-in-soul-calibur-4-screenshot-big.jpgOver this weekend, I’ve spent a significant amount of time with both the 360 and the PS3 versions of Soul Calibur. Since I own both an X-Box 360 and a Playstation 3, I wanted to see which version was worth getting.

I have to admit, both version were better than I expected and pretty close one from the other. It more or less boils down to what you’re looking for in this fighter.

So what were the differences? Read on!

e3logoLike most people working in the industry and game fanatics alike, I’ve been watching the news trickling out of E3 rather closely.

As far as I’m concerned Microsoft had the best E3 presence and by far, but E3 was lame anyway. I have to confess, I’ve only watched the Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony announcements live and read about the others so I might have missed some info.

console_war.jpg The fine folks at the Exploding Barrel have just put together a comprehensive “by the numbers” look at the games available for the Next Gen consoles + the Wii (the Wii is not Next Gen, I don’t care what anyone says).

Not only did they compare the top 20 games on each system (by metacritic scores with links included), they also compared the scores of exclusive games and cross-platform games. It was a bit of an eye opener in some ways and not a surprise at all in others. Console fanboys be warned, you might not like what you see.

Its MGS4 week, for many fans (yours truly included) we have been waiting with great anticipation what could be the greatest game in the series that created the stealth genre. Yet with metacritics already reviewing it at 95% with 10 early reviews, people have been going around now complaining about the mandatory installs that may take up to 15 minutes in games like Devil May Cry 4, GT5P and now MGS4. Its become such an issue in fact, that Konami went as far as as listing the mandatory install as forbidden to be spoken about in the press’ reviews. In all fairness to Konami, they have taken back that ridiuculous restriction, but what I want to know is why on earth is this an issue?!!?

alone_in_the_dark_screenshot.jpgWith the announcements that the PS3 versions of Alone in the Dark and Red Alert both being delayed (or possibly canceled), I can’t help but wonder if this is going to be a sign of things to come. Are we often going to be given an early X-Box 360 version of a game and then a PS3 version around the horizon? Or are both versions going to take the GTA IV route and be delayed simultaneously while devs try to figure out how to code for the PS3 version?

polystation-2.jpgThe guys over at the Exploding Barrel wrote a great article about Console Knock-Offs! I’m embarrassed to admit I was actually surprised that such a thing existed. Why would I be? Everything else is knocked off with cheap ‘Made-in-China’ rips that have a near identical name and look. Why would consoles be any different?

So, are you a Chintendo fan-boy prefering the Vii? Or are you more of a Polystation kind of person?

Anyway, you can check out the whole article here.

xmugen_screenshot.jpgI’ve already written about how I’ve discovered, and even re-discovered MUGEN but something about playing it on my relatively small 19-inch monitor kept me from finishing my dream MUGEN compilation. Well, all that’s about to change as I have just heard news that MUGEN is alive and well on the X-Box.

playstation_3_browser.jpgApparently, the next firmware update (2.20) is going to see improvements to the PS3 Browser’s page loading times! Also, for all of us who wanted to save certain files onto our console but weren’t able to from the browser, this issue will be resolved too!

As I had stated in a previous post, the PS3’s browser had really let me down. Hopefully this will elevate it to the level of being usable! I would have also liked to see an upgrade to the newest version of flash so that I can watch trailers on gametrailers.com. Who knows, maybe it’ll be part of the next update?
