Yesterday I played the new Scott Pilgrim vs The World Game with my brothers and I totally fell in love with Paul Robertson‘s sprite work.

I was so taken aback by it in fact that I had the uncontrollable urge to do some sprite work myself for the first time in years.

The end result is Chun Li, Ryu, Ken, and Guile redrawn with Paul Robertson’s trademark art style.

Tekken, Dead or Alive, and Virtua Fighter are all in pretty much the same category to me. They are fighting games that I haven’t spent any real amount of time learning, but I do enjoy some button-mashing fun with friends on occasion.

So it’s true, I’m not much of a Tekken player. In fact, before my recent purchase of Tekken 6, the last Tekken I played was Tekken Tag Tournament more than 10 years ago. That doesn’t mean I wasn’t excited by the Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter announcement!

rufusSo, after nearly a decade since the last Street Fighter and almost 2 years since it’s announcement, Street Fighter 4 has been released. Being a hardcore Street Fighter fan, I took the day off of work and bought it on day 1. So, was it worth the wait? Did it live up to all of the hype?

Honestly, I hated it for the first 1-2 hours and almost gave up on it then and there. The only thing that kept me playing was the 60$ I had just dropped on it. I was determined to find some enjoyment out of the game, and surprisingly it did grow on me. Yes, the game is fun and, yes, that’s the most important thing in a game, but what irks me is this game could have been epic! Instead, it’s a sloppy but fun fighter that is hard to take seriously. What’s so wrong with it? Read on: (more…)

legend_of_chun_li.jpg When Kotaku first revealed that Capcom wanted to “do to video games what Marvel did to comics”, I have to admit I was disappointed. Overall, the Marvel movies sucked. The only good ones that come to mind are the first 2 X-Men and Iron Man. I mean, come on, all the Spider-Man’s were bad and the Hulk was awful and those were pretty much the runner ups too. Besides, Capcom already has a bunch of Resident Evils and Street Fighter: the Movie which I have not seen to this day (and will never see despite being a former die-hard Street Fighter fanatic).

rufus_character.jpg A few days ago, yet another new character for Street Fighter 4 was revealed. Rufus … a 500 pound tub of lard with a pony-tail and what looks like eye-liner. I kid you not, someone at Capcom actually thought this guy would bring joy to our hearts and smiles to our faces!

Actually, I think Capcom is too smart to think we’d like this character. I have two theories on way Rufus was made to begin with.

king_of_fighters_xii_logo.jpgAs far back as I can remember, I’ve always been a Street Fighter fan. I remember the very first time I played Street Fighter II in the arcades. I was 12 years old and I had taken my then 5 year old brother with me to the arcades. I chose Guile and he chose Dhalsim and I wasn’t able to land a single hit on him.
