professorxst1.jpgYears ago, in 1991 to be specific, I picked up a copy of Jim Lee’s X-Men # 1. The comic itself was brilliant and the ones that followed it were equally amazing, but I did have one complaint… In the first few pages, Charles Xavier tries to wow Jean Grey by speaking in French and ends up making himself look like a complete fool. Actually, it was the writers that looked like fools with their poor French translation. I’ve seen similar cases here and there for a few more years after that, but I did take a break from reading comic books several years ago (with the exception of the Exiles) and have only restarted reading recently.

877411superman-returns-posters.jpgNow before you discard my theory for its unbelievability, just hear me out! If you were Marvel and you were making a ton of comic-book inspired movies, wouldn’t a new generation of Superman movies make you more than a little nervous? Sure, the first Batmans were great, but that series quickly went to the gutters by the time the 4th one was made. Why would Marvel have to worry about a new Batman (little did they know). But Superman’s different…

marvelvsdc.jpgWith Iron Man holding the banner for Marvel and Dark Knight (or Joker, really) leading the way for DC, the question has to be asked, who makes the best comic-related movies?

It’s hard to compare since Marvel has 30 movies while DC only has 19 and more than half of DC’s movies are about either Superman or Batman. Still, the question has to be asked and hopefully answered. Please note, for the purpose of this comparison, we’re only taking into account live-action movies (ie: no animations).

So how do we go about this? Do we only count the good movies for each side and see who has the most? Do we count all of the movies and take a percentage of good vs bad? Or do we look at the best single comic-book movie and crown the champion that way? Let’s do all three!

legend_of_chun_li.jpg When Kotaku first revealed that Capcom wanted to “do to video games what Marvel did to comics”, I have to admit I was disappointed. Overall, the Marvel movies sucked. The only good ones that come to mind are the first 2 X-Men and Iron Man. I mean, come on, all the Spider-Man’s were bad and the Hulk was awful and those were pretty much the runner ups too. Besides, Capcom already has a bunch of Resident Evils and Street Fighter: the Movie which I have not seen to this day (and will never see despite being a former die-hard Street Fighter fanatic).

Yesterday, while going through my collection of SNES Roms, I stumbled on a surprising discovery! Master Chief, the hero of the famous Halo video game Trilogy, was a character on an SNES game!

Ok, so it’s not really him. You have to admit that he shares a striking resemblance with the Spartan we all know!

mugen_vs_screen.jpgYesterday, my brother re-introduced me to the wonderful world of MUGEN. I’ve seen some youtube MUGEN matchups before and did a little research to find out what it is, but I had never taken the time to actually download and try making my own fighting game.

You see, M.U.G.E.N is a freeware 2D fighting game engine that emulates Capcom’s Street Fighter and allows the creation and integration of customer characters, stages, game modes etc… Ever fancied pitting Peter Griffin against Homer Simpson? Or Spider-man vs Superman? Or Wolverine vs Batman? How about Mario vs Sonic? Ok, with the exception of the last one, no video game has ever allowed you to do the other match-ups before!
