With the recent announcement of Street Fighter 3 making a comeback on current gen systems, and the indifference some of my  Street Fighter 4 playing friends have towards that announcement, I decided it was time I make this list and tell the world once and for all where I stand (and where they should) on the topic of the best Capcom fighting games ever!

I narrowed it down to the best 10 fighting games and limited myself to one title per series just so Street Fighter 3 doesn’t dominate the chart on its own. Buckle your seat-belts:

rufusSo, after nearly a decade since the last Street Fighter and almost 2 years since it’s announcement, Street Fighter 4 has been released. Being a hardcore Street Fighter fan, I took the day off of work and bought it on day 1. So, was it worth the wait? Did it live up to all of the hype?

Honestly, I hated it for the first 1-2 hours and almost gave up on it then and there. The only thing that kept me playing was the 60$ I had just dropped on it. I was determined to find some enjoyment out of the game, and surprisingly it did grow on me. Yes, the game is fun and, yes, that’s the most important thing in a game, but what irks me is this game could have been epic! Instead, it’s a sloppy but fun fighter that is hard to take seriously. What’s so wrong with it? Read on: (more…)

street_fighter_41.jpgThere’s something really confusing about how some companies decide what games to make. Every true Street Fighter fan out there was hoping for Street Fighter 4 to be a gorgeous 2D fighter with controls similar to Street Fighter 3. What does Capcom do? They make a 3D Street Fighter 2 remake with scaled-back controls and crappy new characters and they try their best to convince us it’ll be as good as a 2D fighter. Why not oblige us in the first place? Why not call it Street Fighter EX 4 instead? No one would complain, everyone expects mediocrity from the EX fighters. Why must they drag our formerly beloved franchise through the mud?

seth_sfiv_pic.jpg Great news from Capcom! What seems to be the last boss in Street Fighter IV is finally revealed! I’m really happy about this announcement because I’m just that much closer to not caring about Street Fighter IV at all. His name is Seth and he’s a Urien clone that seems to have vertebrae on the front of his body as well … not to mention he’s naked.

I loved Street Fighter 3, the game played very well, but we could have done without the likes of Twelve and Q. Necro and Urien were not horrible but were also not very good either. Still, they managed to introduce Dudley, Alex, Ibuki, and Makoto. So why is Street Fighter IV only copying the bad and forgetting about all the good new innovations Street Fighter III had?

king_of_fighters_xii_logo.jpgAs far back as I can remember, I’ve always been a Street Fighter fan. I remember the very first time I played Street Fighter II in the arcades. I was 12 years old and I had taken my then 5 year old brother with me to the arcades. I chose Guile and he chose Dhalsim and I wasn’t able to land a single hit on him.
