osama_loves.jpg A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by a representative of the website OsamaLoves.com. The aim of the site is to show that not all Osama’s are terrorists hell-bent on seeing the end of all Americans and apple pie. Their aim is to collect the pictures of 500 Osama’s holding up a cue card explaining what they love! They also plan on making a documentary with the same purpose.

fatprincess.jpgApparently, a few feminists are in an uproar over the subject of the upcoming Fat Princess game. Really? They don’t have anything more important to bitch about than this? If you’re not in the know, the game features two teams trying to “capture” a princess and then feed ridiculous amounts of cake to her so that she’s too fat for the other team to take. If you ask me I think it’s a riot! As soon as I saw the announcement for this game I was in love!

console_war.jpg The fine folks at the Exploding Barrel have just put together a comprehensive “by the numbers” look at the games available for the Next Gen consoles + the Wii (the Wii is not Next Gen, I don’t care what anyone says).

Not only did they compare the top 20 games on each system (by metacritic scores with links included), they also compared the scores of exclusive games and cross-platform games. It was a bit of an eye opener in some ways and not a surprise at all in others. Console fanboys be warned, you might not like what you see.

mrspacmonalisa.jpgNo one denies that video games can inspire art or that they contain art within them, but are they art when taken as a whole? Roger Ebert has stated that video games can never be “high art”. I personally couldn’t give a damn what some high society windbags deem “High Art” and what they think is too low for them to consider.  High Art is and always has been simply art that the ruling social class prefers. Should gamers care that some old farts look down on the hobby we love from their high horse?

The answer is simply: No! Let’s not forget that Shakespeare’s plays were originally written for and performed to the poor masses and not High Society. It took those arrogant bastards quite a while to recognize Shakespeare’s genius. The same is true of Edgar Allan Poe who is considered one of the best writers of all time but who died penniless and unrecognized. How many brilliant painters only become famous years after their deaths?

cimg1235.JPG Another Game Designer here in the studio happened to look outside and spot a falcon eating a pigeon! I wonder if this could be used as inspiration for a game! What am I saying, of course it can! I’d play it ;)

eb_games_photo.jpgOn Saturday, my little brother (age 15) and I went to the EB Games near his house. While there I saw an inexpensive second-hand copy of Bioshock and proceeded to the cash register to pay. I was refused.

You read right, the teller behind the cash register refused to sell me the copy because I was with a minor who was not my child. He said I couldn’t prove that I wasn’t buying the game for my brother. If he were my son, then they would explain what the rating system was and let me decide, but since he was just my brother I couldn’t buy anything rated Mature.

grandtheftauto.jpgA British news site was asking for stories of how video games turned people to a life of crime.

If this isn’t ridiculous in itself, they are also offering money for these stories!

In response to what has to be one of the dumbest requests I’ve seen online, my co-worker wrote the following:

polystation-2.jpgThe guys over at the Exploding Barrel wrote a great article about Console Knock-Offs! I’m embarrassed to admit I was actually surprised that such a thing existed. Why would I be? Everything else is knocked off with cheap ‘Made-in-China’ rips that have a near identical name and look. Why would consoles be any different?

So, are you a Chintendo fan-boy prefering the Vii? Or are you more of a Polystation kind of person?

Anyway, you can check out the whole article here.

amaterasu_gallery.png Fans of the video game Okami? Or just fans of great video-game artwork? Hell, fans of any kind of artwork at all? Either way, the news that Capcom has just put an online Okami art gallery should put a smile on your face!

Go check it out, you’ll more than likely have a new wallpaper on your desktop before the day is done ;)

Inspired by the many dedications to video game characters I’ve seen around, like this one of Mario, I’ve decided to make my own dedication to my favourite Street Fighter character: Ken (a.k.a. Ken Masters) from the Street Fighter video games/movies/comics.
